AUTOMATIC HAND WASHING TOOL USING ULTASONIC SENSOR AND ARDUINO UNO CONTROLLER

According to World Health Organization (WHO), it is important to wash your hand at least for 20 seconds to ensure your hand free from germs and viruses. Oktania Hasna Sulistiyaningrum, a student of the Electrical Engineering Education Study Program of UNY decided to design an automatic hand washing device to make this activity easier. By using ultasonic sensor and an Arduino Uno controller, there is no need to push any button whenever people want to wash their hands.

This tool can run on a battery and can last for approximately 8 hours for continuous use. When the tool is unable to pump water, it indicates that the battery has run out and must be charged immediately. The tool is also equipped with an on / off button to save the battery energy.

Hasna assemble the equipment based on its electronic schematic.   Arduino Uno as a controller or the brain of processing data. Ultrasonic sensor as a tool to detect the presence of hands washing hands. Servo is used to pull hand washing soap pumping automatically.

“The sensor will detect your hands within 15 cm away. The water will flow automatically for 15 seconds to water your hands. Then automatically the water turns off and the hand washing soap comes out in two pumping times. The system will stop for 20 seconds to perform hand washing,” she said. The automatic hand washing tool was donated to Surajaya Village, Pemalang Regency as part of UNY Community Service Program. (Dedy, Tj.Lak)
